The main antagonist of every female protagonist is the stereotype. And that's the only generalization we can make when it comes to creating female characters. As the market and the public demand more and more stories with female protagonists, the challenge of creating authentic female characters who manage to break out of the commonplace that has been reserved for women in fiction for centuries is also growing. In order to create characters who break those rules, it is essential to know what those rules are. For this reason, the content aims to introduce the most important female stereotypes in fiction and to show ways of subverting them. This is the focus of the work and research of Manuela Cantuária, who in this masterclass will share some insights from her research on female representation, which also gave rise to the screenwriting course "Vulneráveis Venceremos: a construção de heroínas humanos" (Vulnerable We Will Win: the Construction of Human Heroines).
