How long does the silence last? What looks work best on screen? Does an unusual contrast make sense in this scene? Many of these questions arise in the process of editing an audiovisual work and are difficult to predict at the time of creation, but they are also essential to the intended emotional impact and narrative construction. It is the union of the author's original intention and the careful editing on the editing island that creates the magic on the screen. The relationship between screenwriting and editing is therefore intrinsic, but the meeting between writer and editor doesn't always happen in the daily market, so that many potentials are lost and some works end up being fragmented or taking less interesting directions than they should. This panel aims to deepen the analysis of this creative exchange, focusing on issues such as rhythm, tone, cohesion and coherence, among many others that are enhanced by working together.
