Exploring the fertile ground of personal expression and narrative authenticity, this debate delves into the deep waters of contemporary auteur documentary filmmaking, where filmmakers have been challenging boundaries and exploring new ways of storytelling that reflect their own perspectives and experiences. The different stylistic and ethical approaches adopted by documentarians, navigating the balance between subjectivity and objectivity, will be essential topics of this discussion that also encompasses the concepts of truth and representation. Additionally, we will reflect on the impact of these documentaries on contemporary society, their potential to promote empathy, social change, and civic engagement. In this dialogue, we will examine how auteur documentary filmmaking is reinventing itself, making room for new voices, questioning dominant narratives, and challenging audience expectations.
