New Perspectives on Independent Cinema

Writers Room Audiovisual Mídia e Entretenimento Storytelling Arte e Cultura Criatividade

The national cinema constantly seeks to reinvent itself, drawing from new perspectives, whether they come from experienced creators or rising professionals. However, aesthetic and narrative experimentation does not follow a standard path, and many of these routes mark the breaking of barriers and the production of innovative works. As a result, more films address social, political, and cultural themes in a critical and transformative manner, challenging conventions and expanding the boundaries of Brazilian cinema. Despite these advances, independent cinema still faces a series of challenges, ranging from lack of funding and institutional support to the scarcity of exhibition and promotional spaces. In this panel, the relationship between art and the market will be discussed, along with the aesthetic pursuits and narrative challenges of each work, as well as strategies to strengthen and sustain the sector, ensuring its vitality and relevance in the country's cultural landscape.
